Poker

What to do and what not to do when playing poker: a basic overview and game rules for the most infamous card game around.
Practice Poker:

The ancient game of poker, which can trace its lineage all the way back to Renaissance France and Germany, is one of most popular casino table games in the world today. Using a pack of 52 cards, players receive a specific number of cards all face down. Cards use normal ranking with aces always high. All suits are of equal value. Game variants exist showing different numbers of cards shown face up or down.

Play proceeds with each player given the opportunity of exchanging any number of the cards in their hand for replacement cards from the deck. This is the first test for the poker player. A player replacing four cards is most likely to have a poor hand and is retaining one ace or a face card. Alternatively, a player who exchanges no cards may have a wizard hand or else they are totally bluffing. The practice of the bluff plays an integral part in the game of poker, especially when it comes to the betting round.

After the exchange round, players then start to bet their hands. Some may fold, giving clear indication that they have poor hands. The others stay in and take part in a war of nerves until a final call on the betting is made by the player with the weakest knees. Strongest hand wins the pot.

Game play summary:

  • Dealer deals a specific number of cards to each player
  • Exchange round enables players to replace bad cards with cards from the deck
  • Series of betting begins with weaker hands folding out of the game
  • Stronger players bet their hands for any number of rounds until someone calls
  • Upon a call, the players display their hands, and the winner takes the pot
